Setting Up a MultiSite Drupal Installation Using cPanel

Recently, I had a need to set up a multisite installation on a shared hosting environment (Hostmonster).  My only access to the server currently, until I jump through the appropriate hoops to get SSH access, is FTP and cPanel.  Try as I might, I had difficulties with the installation until I found this article here.  Unfortunately, there are just a few missing steps, so with credit to the original author, kham08 over at Drupal Groups, I am going to give a fuller explanation.  Finally, play careful attention

Drupal Updates Not Updating

I recently logged into my website and got the "a security update is available for your site" message. In this case, I needed to upgrade from 6.9 to 6.10.

I have a couple of upgrades under my belt, so I downloaded the tarball and started the process of upgrading Drupal. Everything ran without an error and after finishing up the update, I was kicked out to my administration page. But, the page said "a security update is available for your site." Huh, what? I just updated?!?

Growing Up Opie

When I was a kid, my dad used to love "The Andy Griffith Show". Under two criteria. It was a black and white episode and that Barney Fife (Don Knotts) was in it. Because of the way the show was syndicated, on a bad night you could get a single helping of Andy, Barney, Goober, and all the rest. But, on a good night there was three episodes on. The show became a staple of my growing up. My father, my uncles, and I all were fans of the show to the point that you were shamed if you couldn't give a 2 minute synopsis of the show after watching the first 10 seconds of the show.

Cookies Are Your Friend In Ubercart (Cannot Add Item to Shopping Cart)

After tracking down a "bug" in Ubercart, I thought I would share it with the community. I had a support email for someone not being able to add an item into a shopping cart that is powered by Ubercart. User was running IE7. For the life of me I could not get Ubercart not to dutifully add the item that was requested to be added to the cart. I started turning off functionality it IE (javascript, etc). I then stumbled upon cookies. Apparently, the user didn't have cookies enabled or a security setting barred cookie use.

Images Not Uploading in Ubercart? What's the File Named?

Wow, so a funny think happened to me on the way to work today...  Ok, not so much on the way to work as while at work.  Ubercart, which was working so well, decided out of nowhere not to upload images associated with products.

Google Labs in Google Apps

In my second Google-centric post of the evening, I wanted to share how you to can enable Google Lab applications in your Google Apps Accounts.  It turns out it takes about 13 seconds + 24 hours.  To turn on Google Labs,

Google Releases Themes for Gmail

In case you missed it, Google rolled out some themes for their Gmail mail client.  Official details regarding the 30 or so themes that are available under the Settings tab of your Gmail account are available at the Official Gmail Blog.  Apparently, there are three unfortunate limitations:

Be Prepared

This evening was a late one as Amy and I spent the whole night at the Nashville Chapter of the Red Cross.  We believe that it is important to stay current on our CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification.  In two nights, once a year, we go through a training that we have gone through a dozen times before.  It changes every so often like the number of compressions to breaths, but it is roughly the same.  But we go for the certification and to practice it.

Going to the Ryman

We'll be headed to the Ryman in a couple of weekends to take in the late show at the Opry on a Saturday night.  Because of the Christmas Spectacular at the Opryland Hotel, the Grand Ole Opry is performing at the Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville.  The Ryman is often times considered the original home of the Grand Ole Opry, but it is actually the fifth location of the Opry.  In 1925 the Opry started at the National Life and Accident Insurance Company in downtown Nashville.

Integrating Harmony 550 with Insignia TV

This weekend I picked up a Logitech Harmony 550 universal remote.  I selected it to interface with my home entertainment center that has an Apple TV and a DIRECTV device.  Both have proven troublesome in integration.  However the Harmony quickly recognized the devices as an Insignia television.  Set up was a snap, under 30 minutes, except for the life of me I could not figure out how to properly configure the activities.
